Definition of ISO: ISO is the abbreviation of International Organization for Standardization in other words it is a quality management standard that international standardization organization. ISO 9001 Certificate determines an assurance that the products or services of relevant institution are produced as a result of management understanding dispatched and administered in conformity with an internationally accepted management system and therefore it is an assurance of that the sustainability of product and service quality of institution may be maintained.
ISO 9001 is a standard which defines an effective quality management system. When the institution achieves the requirements of this standard, it may receive ISO 9001 certificate. The certificate indicates that the products and services of institution have been produced in conformity with an internally accepted standard. The standard center is located in Geneva city of Switzerland and it was developed by International Organization of Standardization–IOS to which more than 90 countries are affiliated. The authority of granting authorization to certification companies has been given to accreditation committees of member countries. The accreditation authority in Turkey has been given to TURKAK.
From time to time different standards developed for similar technologies in different countries or regions are used as ‘’technical obstacle for trade’’. Today the most significant function of ISO is to prepare internationally accepted standards such as ISO 9000 quality management standards and other product standards and remove these kinds of technical obstacles in front of trade.
What is ISO 9000?: It is the whole of standards which guides establishing and developing a quality management system in order that the organizations may increase customer satisfaction and has been published by ISO.
What is ISO 9001?: It is the standard at which the conditions required to be applied during establishing Quality Management Systems and which is subjected to certification audit. It is the name of certificate which is given.
What is ISO 9001:2008?: ISO 9001 standard is reviewed by ISO in every 5 years and republished by making necessary revisions within the direction of opinions and needs of an implementers. The figure of 2008 is the version date indicating that this revision was made and published in 2009 (ISO 9001:2008 version).
